​The inaugural LIMINAL Dance Film Festival, held April 24–26, 2026, at Dance Place in Washington, DC, brought together artists, filmmakers, and audiences from around the world for an extraordinary three-day celebration of dance on screen.

Featuring 70 films representing 18 countries, LIMINAL transformed Dance Place into a vibrant international gathering of movement, cinema, and creative exchange. From intimate experimental shorts to boundary-pushing cinematic works, the festival celebrated the limitless possibilities of dance film and the extraordinary artists redefining the intersection of movement and moving images.

Beyond the screen, audiences were swept away by immersive live projection installations and captivating musical performances, including original works by LOCATOR and Zane Forshee's Breaking Counterpoint, expanding the festival experience into an exciting dialogue between dance, music, technology, and visual art.

The festival also celebrated artistic excellence through its inaugural LIMINAL Awards Program, recognizing outstanding filmmaking, innovative storytelling, and visionary artistic voices. Made possible through the generous support of our sponsors, community partners, and presenting organizations, these awards championed emerging and established artists while fostering meaningful connections across the international dance film community.
